From this second edition, the International Choral Fest Costa Rica for Peace brings world reknown conductors to enrich the participation of singers and conductors.

These workshops for 2018 will be in charge of the Stacey V. Gibbs of USA and Maestra Beatriz Corona from Cuba.

The workshops will be directed to choir directors. This in order to take advantage of the vistita of the renowned musicians in our country.

This Second edition of Choral Fest Costa Rica for Peace, has open enrollment for the Choral Conductors both professionals and amateurs, students and teachers of music of all specialties, as well as choral singing aficionados who have a minimum of knowledge Music for your best use.

Biography:


Stacey V. Gibbs is a prolific and highly sought-after composer-arranger.. Best known for arrangements of spirituals, he is highly acclaimed for his ability to infuse new energy into familiar works without sacrificing their authenticity or power. Maestro Gibbs' spirituals have been performed by the United States Air Force Sergeants, The St. Olaf Choir, the Stellenbosch Choir of Africa, the University of Southern California Chamber Singers, the Winston-Salem State University Singing Rams, Morehouse & the University of Michigan Glee Clubs, the Wartburg Choir and many other college, university, high school and professional ensembles both domestically and internationally. His music has been programmed at all state festivals, National Association of Music Educators (MENC) Festivals, the World Choir Games and regional and national American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Conventions. The music of Stacey V. Gibbs is published by Gentry Publications, National Music Publishers, Pavane Publishing, Alliance Music, Hinshaw Music, GIA Music and Carl Fischer Music. His settings may also be found under the Jo-Michael Scheibe Choral Choral Series at Santa Barbara Music Publishing, Colla Voce Music and Walton Music Publishers. He currently has over 70 published arrangements for SATB, SSAA and TTBB ensembles. The Stacey V. Gibbs Choral Series with Gentry Publications debuted in February, 2010 with Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel. He's had several works listed under the Editor's Choice with J.W. Pepper. Didn't It Rain: The Spirituals of Stacey V. Gibbs, recorded by the Sunday Night Singers of California was released in 2012; and his setting of Way Over in Beulah Lan' was performed agh the 57th Inaugural Service for President Barack Obama. Recently, the Winston-Salem State University Singing Rams' video of Gibbs' setting Rockin' Jerusalem was the December (2014) and July (2015) featured video for Santa Barbara Music Publishing. 'Great God Almighty' was selected for the Texas All State Choir in 2014 and was performed by the USC Chamber Singers at The X World Choral Symposium in China. His arrangements of 'Elijah Rock', 'Gather at the River', 'Every Time I Feel the Spirit', 'I Want Jesus to Walk with Me' debuted at ACDA Minneapolis in March 2017. His collaboration with Richard Burchard, 'Eternal Hope', debuted as well. His settings of Po' Man Lazarus & Wade in the Water were performed at the World Choral Symposium in Barcelona, Spain July, 2017 and his setting of Rockin’ Jerusalem was performed by the World Youth Choir and the Nairobi Chamber Chorus conducted by Ken Wakia. Maestro Gibbs' will made his conducting debut at Carnegie Hall in April, 2017 and introduced his new work 'Freedom'. In the spring of 2018, he will present 'From Agony to Glory, the Spiritual'. He was the guest clinician for the Georgia Music Educators Association District 6 Middle School Honor Choir. He will debut and conduct a commissioned work at the ACDA Regional Conference in Chicago, Il in February, 2018. Additionally, the ACDA Southern Division Conference has commissioned a new work with special guest soloist and American Idol Winner Reuben Studdard. This setting will debut in Louisville, KY in February, 2018. He recently accepted an invitation to be the guest conductor and clinician at the International Choral Fest scheduled for June, 2018 in Costa Rica. He also will participate in Sing for Justice, Michigan. This is an interdisciplinary event which calls for musicians, artists and scholars to consider their roles as ambassadors for change. He has twenty years of management experience and currently resides in Detroit, Michigan.

In addition, the directors participating in the workshop are invited to join the choir in the singing contest and finally participate in the closing concert of the Festival.

Maestra Beatriz Corona Cuba

Biography:

He was born in Havana on June 22, 1962. He began his studies of piano and choral conducting at the "Alejandro García Caturla" Conservatory in Havana and continued until 1982 at the National School of Music with the teacher Alina Orraca, finishing the same at the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory with Professor Teresa Pentón. He directed the Professional Choir of Cienfuegos for one year and teaches in several Conservatories of Havana and Camagüey. She worked as Music Advisor in the National Presidency of the Organization of Pioneers of Cuba. As a teacher, she taught classes in Choir Direction, Piano Scores Reading and Ensemble Practice at the National School of Music. In 1992 he made a working tour through different cities in Sweden. In 1995 he gave workshops on Choral Music and his work in Argentina. In this last year he worked giving classes and choral repair workshops in Venezuela. Beatriz Corona, has musicalized the poetic work of José Martí, Nicolás Guillén, Mario Benedetti, Pablo Neruda, Adolfo Martí Fuentes, César Vallejo, Dora Alonso and Dulce María Loynaz, among others. Although he has not done academic composition studies, his work in this field has been guided by musicians such as: Harold Gramatges and Alfredo Diez Nieto. Artistic work As a composer she has managed to offer a vast musical production. In its catalog there are around 200 choral works of different formats: * orchestral music, chamber music, religious works, incidental music for movies (for the films Amor Vertical and Sabor Latino), (the latter with his brother Kiki Corona). In them predominates his interest in the human voice as insurmountable sound medium. His music nourishes the repertoire of almost all the choirs of our music schools, that of choral, symphonic and chamber ensembles such as the Exaudi, National choirs, and the Schola Cantorum Coralina. The Symphonic Orchestra of Santiago de Cuba and the Trío D'Camera directed by the pianist Marita Rodríguez. It has been heard in the United States, Norway, Finland, Germany and Spain. His work A Mariner, with texts by Matías Antón, was selected as a compulsory work to be performed by the choirs that participated in the Composition Contest of the Polyphony and Habaneras Festival held in Torrevieja, Spain, in 2004. His album Aire Nocturno was nominated for CUBADISCO 2002 in the categories of Recording, Music Production and Choral Music. The CD includes a selection of his choral work of excellent artistic and professional quality. They perform the choirs of young musicians Vocal Leo and Coro Polifónico de La Habana of great vocal quality, under the direction of choir directors Corina Campos Morales and Carmen Collado López respectively. Awards and distinctions In 1979 he participated with the Chamber Choir of the National School of Art under the direction of Alina Orraca in the VIII Festival of Musical Youths and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria, where they obtained the Second Prize in the Choir category. It has been awarded in several composition contests, among which are: The Golden Age, National Music Contest of the Direction of Artistic Teaching, Choral composition competition Esteban Salas, National Competition of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC). With his record Aire Nocturno he won the First Prize at the CUBADISCO 2000 International Fair in the Category: Choral Music. She has received the Abril Prize twice. She holds the Distinction for National Culture.
