Josu Elberdin Badiola
Composer, choral conductor, teacher and organist

Josu Elberdin Badiola was born in 1976 in Pasaia, Gipuzkoa. He completed his musical studies at the Pasaia Musikal Conservatory, where he earned degrees as a Piano Teacher and Voice Teacher. He also holds a diploma in Social Education from the University of the Basque Country.

Since 2000 he has taught at the Pasaia Municipal Music School. He has also served as titular organist of the Parish of Nuestra Señora del Carmen de Trintxerpe, in Pasaia, since 1991.

Throughout his career he has led seminars and courses on children’s and adult choral conducting both nationally and internationally. His teaching and artistic work has taken him to countries including Indonesia, Lithuania, France, Bulgaria and Colombia, among others. He has also served as a juror in choral and composition competitions of national and international scope.

He currently serves as Technical Director of Ourencanto and is a member of the Technical Committee of the Tolosa International Choral Contest.

His work stands out especially in choral composition. He has received several composition awards and has written commissioned and required works for prestigious international competitions, festivals and choirs, including the Tolosa International Choral Competition, Taipei International Choral Festival, Europa Cantat Junior, the World Choral Symposium in Argentina 2011 and Barcelona 2017, the Quincena Musical de San Sebastián, and Musikaste.

His music is especially linked to children’s choral repertoire, where many of his works have been presented as musical storytelling. He also has several symphonic-format compositions, along with an extensive body of work in choral, symphonic, pop-rock and instrumental music.
